Dear music friends,
Six years ago SoNoRo has opened a new gate to the marvellous world of chamber music in Bucharest. Since then it continued to transport audiences to unexplored musical terrains. NEW WORLDS is a logical continuation of this exciting journey.
For the first time SoNoRo will give it’s platform to jazz music - you will have the opportunity to hear Vienese trio Schmid-Carstensen-Breinschmid, Romanian singer Luiza Zan and Lithuanian pianist Petras Geniusas, as well as Daniel Schnyder, New York based composer and saxophone player.
CasalQuartett from Zürich will celebrate the birth of the string quartet on four original Jacobus Steiner instruments at the St.Iosif Cathedral.
America, quintessence of the New World, will play an important role in this year’s programme, through the compositions by the Americans Philipp Glass, Edward K. Ellington, George Gerswhin and Antonin Dvorak, whose creativity was greatly inspired by his overseas voyages.
The great plains and mysterious towns of Russia will sound through the masterworks of Sergey Rachmaninoff, Michael Glinka, Alfred Schnittke and Dmitry Shostakovich.
Compositions by Viennese prodigy turned Hollywood star Erich Wolfgang Korngold and the great Hungarians Béla Bartók and Ernst von Dohnányi document the fate of the entire European generation of artists, whose destiny was to escape the wartime turbulences and seek a new homeland in America.
The innovative Parisian artist Raphael Thierry will create paintings in sand accompanied by the magical sounds of Arvo Pärt, Tigran Mansurian and Sven Renemais.
In two Lisztomania evenings in Bucharest and Cluj we will celebrate the anniversary of the great piano virtuoso and composer Franz Liszt. The actress Maria Dinulescu will read fragments of his writings.
The already traditional partnership with the Transylvania International Film Festival will continue this year with the screening of Life in a Day. This film was created from recordings sent by the users of youtube platform.
We are delighted to have you all with us again and we hope that you will have as much pleasure listening to us as we have performing for you!
Bon voyage!
